Game 8
Game 8 - August 1, 2010 - Encountering an old rival and crushing the life out of them is usually a rewarding experience. The Spitballs got to bathe in the blood of Cok-Dyno on Sunday afternoon as a familiar foe tried to spoil the Balls' perfect season.
The Spitballs, for the first time this season, looked as though they may have to come into the game shorthanded. Wedding and vacations scattered the majority of the team and forced the remaining balls to call upon some replacements. Interim head coach, Danny "Hacksaw" Kaminsky orchestrated a beautifully put together lineup that included some returners from last year, Tyler "COZAAAAD" McArthur and Ryan "All I Wanna Do Is Zooma Zoom Zoom In Yo Boom Boom" Groenenboom. They stepped in nicely to fill in the gaps left by the regulars in the Spitballs lineup.
Based on the game report from Hacksaw, the Spitballs came out with guns blazing and got 4 runs across in the first inning after shutting Cok-Dyno down in the top of the first, Cok-Dyno was showing no threat on offense until the 4th inning when they plated 2 runs and again in the 5th when they loaded the bases and had their only real hitter at the plate. He skied one to the warning track and in a beautiful display of athleticism and grace, center fielder Michael Rowland ran the ball down and got the third out of the inning, saving perhaps 3 runs in the process. It was this catch and a 4-4 day at the plate that earned intern Rowland this week's Player of the Week and Heavyweight Champion of the Diamond honors for Week 8. After that great catch, the Balls closed things out with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th to run rule Cok-Dyno. Adam "Bam Bam Bigelow" Bennett knocked in the final run. From what I hear the post game festivities were quite the ordeal. Matt "The Giant" Ehler's powers of persuasion apparently got the best of more than one Spitball. Post game brews lasted almost 3 hours and 3 Balls turned in BPI's of over 1, most of which were accumulated in the parking lot after the game. Thanks to these efforts and those of all Spitballs either present or absent, this is turning into the greatest season the Balls have ever mustered. Let's keep up the good work.
Don't forget, Fan Appreciation Day/Mustache Day is coming up quickly. August 22nd will be here before you know it. Make sure and invite any Spitballs fans or people you think may be able to contribute to a great atmosphere. Sources close to the team say that last game's Player of the Week and Heavyweight Champion of the Diamond, Ryan "Mr. Socko/Mick Foley" Gamso is planning to overtake the current Spitballs Fan attendance record by inviting close to 100 potential Spitballs fans. Also, August 29th the Spitballs will play two games, the first at 4:00pm and the second at 6:00pm. This will be Turn Back The Clock Spitballs Jersey Day so bring a couple throwbacks out to the park and show everyone the rich history of this dynasty in the making.
