Game 1

SEASON OPENER - JUNE 6, 2010 - The opening game of the 2010 Spitballs season left little doubt in anyone's mind that this team is hungry and that this season is sure to be a good one. The Spitballs handily put away the Supertune Softball team 11-1 Sunday evening.

Offensively, the Balls turned in an astounding performance posting 11 runs in only 5 innings. 1 run in the first inning and 2 more in the second gave the good guys a 3-0 lead. Supertune came charging back with a run of their own in the third, but that's all they could muster. After a scoreless third, the Spitballs would go on to collect 8 more runs over the next two innings. Faulk (Sting) and Frerichs (Superfly) led the scoring barrage, each hitting a home run. Turner (The Hitman), Loftus (TBD), and Brogan (Macho Man) all helped the cause, each hitting a triple. Making his Spitballs debut, Mike Rowland had a couple well hit balls that resulted in two singles and a sac fly for his first RBI of his career.

The Spitballs defense which was expected to come out of the gate with a bit of rust to shake off showed minimal signs that this was the first game of the year. The ace on the hill, Beran (Rowdy Roddy "Hot Rod" Piper) struck out two (same guy twice...what a loser) and had excellent help behind him. Gamso (Mr. Socko) stepped into the second base duties masterfully handling a few ground balls and a force out at second like he'd been playing there for years. Over in the hot corner, Frerichs and Loftus held down the left side of the infield beautifully.

For his performance both at the plate and in the field, the Heavyweight Title Belt of the Week goes to Superfly Jimmy Snuka. When asked about the game, Snuka commented, "If I had one more match, I would like to see Vince Mcmahon with his daughter and his son fight me with my daughter and my son."
