Game 10 - August 22, 2010 - I would like to start things out by thanking all the fans who came out and helped us celebrate the 2010 Spitballs softball season. We had a great time and lots of good people came out to the park to cheer us on. Secondly, I would like to curse the team of "We Love Big Hits" for not showing up and taking the opportunity for us to lay another ass beating down away from us. They showed extremely bad form for not calling to give us a heads up that a forfeit was eminent and we were left with no competition. I can't say I'm surprised by what happened, seeing as we're clearly the dominant force in the league and backed by a dozen or so of the best fans this game has ever seen, they
probably figured they didn't stand a chance, and they were right. On the bright side of the situation, Dave Beran graciously got a new bat for the Spitballs to use. We broke it in with a little batting practice. We got some fielding practice in as well, mostly with a beer in hand and mostly at shortstop. It turns out that this team has a lot more left side infielders than was previously known about. We even had the opportunity to honor our fans by getting a few of them on the field to hit some balls.
No need to report beers drank this week. Everyone's BPI was infinity seeing as we played zero innings. Also, everyone hit for the cycle, scored 4 times and had 10 RBIs (Even though the game will go down in the record books as a 7-0 win). Nice work this week everyone.
Don't forget, next week for our two games we will be having Throwback Spitballs Jersey Day. You have the opportunity to sport two different old school shirts with our games at 4pm and 6pm. See you at the ballfields!
Thanks again to all the friends, family, and
fans for joining us during the 2010 Spitballs
Fan Appreciation Dan!!!
Game 8 - August 1, 2010 - Encountering an old rival and crushing the life out of them is usually a rewarding experience. The Spitballs got to bathe in the blood of Cok-Dyno on Sunday afternoon as a familiar foe tried to spoil the Balls' perfect season.
The Spitballs, for the first time this season, looked as though they may have to come into the game shorthanded. Wedding and vacations scattered the majority of the team and forced the remaining balls to call upon some replacements. Interim head coach, Danny "Hacksaw" Kaminsky orchestrated a beautifully put together lineup that included some returners from last year, Tyler "COZAAAAD" McArthur and Ryan "All I Wanna Do Is Zooma Zoom Zoom In Yo Boom Boom" Groenenboom. They stepped in nicely to fill in the gaps left by the regulars in the Spitballs lineup.
Based on the game report from Hacksaw, the Spitballs came out with guns blazing and got 4 runs across in the first inning after shutting Cok-Dyno down in the top of the first, Cok-Dyno was showing no threat on offense until the 4th inning when they plated 2 runs and again in the 5th when they loaded the bases and had their only real hitter at the plate. He skied one to the warning track and in a beautiful display of athleticism and grace, center fielder Michael Rowland ran the ball down and got the third out of the inning, saving perhaps 3 runs in the process. It was this catch and a 4-4 day at the plate that earned intern Rowland this week's Player of the Week and Heavyweight Champion of the Diamond honors for Week 8. After that great catch, the Balls closed things out with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th to run rule Cok-Dyno. Adam "Bam Bam Bigelow" Bennett knocked in the final run. From what I hear the post game festivities were quite the ordeal. Matt "The Giant" Ehler's powers of persuasion apparently got the best of more than one Spitball. Post game brews lasted almost 3 hours and 3 Balls turned in BPI's of over 1, most of which were accumulated in the parking lot after the game. Thanks to these efforts and those of all Spitballs either present or absent, this is turning into the greatest season the Balls have ever mustered. Let's keep up the good work.
Don't forget, Fan Appreciation Day/Mustache Day is coming up quickly. August 22nd will be here before you know it. Make sure and invite any Spitballs fans or people you think may be able to contribute to a great atmosphere. Sources close to the team say that last game's Player of the Week and Heavyweight Champion of the Diamond, Ryan "Mr. Socko/Mick Foley" Gamso is planning to overtake the current Spitballs Fan attendance record by inviting close to 100 potential Spitballs fans. Also, August 29th the Spitballs will play two games, the first at 4:00pm and the second at 6:00pm. This will be Turn Back The Clock Spitballs Jersey Day so bring a couple throwbacks out to the park and show everyone the rich history of this dynasty in the making.

L: Cok-boy (3-2) 13.14 ERA

Game 7 - July 25, 2010 - The spitballs truly are having a great year. In their closest contest of the year, the balls managed to pull out a late inning victory over The Soft Balls. It took some sort of nuts to not buckle under the pressure put on by the opposition. Just when it seemed the Spitballs would finally pee the game down their own leg, the gloves tightened up, the bats woke up just enough, the they pulled out the victory.
The first inning was the most productive for the Spitballs offensively as they plated 4 runs in the top of the 1st against the Soft Balls, who were the host team for this contest. In the bottom of the inning the defense of the 'Balls shut down the Soft Balls' bats. The coach for the Spitballs forgot all his gear and was forced to miss the first inning and a half, thus leaving the Balls short handed defensively.
Tensions started to run high when a missed call by the umpire at home plate kept the Softballs' inning alive in the 5th and they put up 4 runs, and again in the 6th when the wheels started to come off for the Spitballs defense...(read more)
Game 6 - July 18, 2010 - As expected, the Spitballs came out shooting in their matchup with Treat America on Sunday. The Balls were coming coming into the game having had a 3 week break due to the 4th of July weekend and a rainout the previous week. There wasn't much rust though as fielding was sharp and hitting was spot on.
As is customary, the Spitballs bats came alive right out of the gate by putting up 9 runs in the first inning. Treat America had a hard time fielding balls all day and it was evident that this was going to be a long day for their infielders. With the sun beaming down on their faces, they chased grounder after grounder, but to no avail. The hot dirt of the infield proved to have just enough skip that the Spitballs seemed as if they were never going to get out. Most balls hit to the outfield fell safely in the grass as Treat America's outfielders showed a lack of speed or general athletic prowess all day...(read more)
Game 5 - RESCHEDULED - AUGUST 29, 2010 - 6PM
Game 4 - June 27, 2010 - They finally did it. This win was 6 years in the making. To everyone's knowledge, the Spitballs have never toppled the old, fat, smack talking giant that is the Hanson Brothers. The losing streak came to an end Sunday night.
The Balls jumped out to an early lead by putting 4 runs on the board and almost batting around in the very first inning. The Hanson Brothers could only muster up one run in the first. One stand out play worth noting was Mick Foley's "never say die even when the outfielder has the ball in shallow left field" attitude while trying to stretch a single into a triple...(read more)
Game 3 - June 20, 2010 - To anyone watching the game between the Spitballs and The Dude's, all signs pointed to a pitchers duel. Keegan Odle, aka Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, (1-0, 2.25ERA) and The Dude's ace on the hill seemed to have complete control through the first two innings. With one hit in the first inning, The Dude's showed the first spark of offense, only to have it dowsed by the Spitballs stifling defense. The Dragon then helped his own cause in the second with a single and was left stranded on first.
One run for The Dude's in the third brought a rejuvenated Spitballs offense to life as they put up two runs of their own. Not until the 4th inning did all hell break loose...(read more)
Game 2 - RESCHEDULED - August 29, 2010 - 4PM
Game 1 - JUNE 6, 2010 - The opening game of the 2010 Spitballs season left little doubt in anyone's mind that this team is hungry and that this season is sure to be a good one. The Spitballs handily put away the Supertune Softball team 11-1 Sunday evening.
Offensively, the Balls turned in an astounding performance posting 11 runs in only 5 innings. 1 run in the first inning and 2 more in the second gave the good guys a 3-0 lead. Supertune came charging back with a run of their own in the third...(read more)
